Psp 3000 Charger Voltage
What problems, if any, would I encounter buying an imported PSP from Japan?
I want to buy a Radiant Red PSP 3000 from Japan via eBay.
I have done some research and from what I’ve read, problems could arise.
The person who answers all of my questions accurately will receive the highest number of points.
1. Is it true that I would not be able to do a software update on my PSP?
I have read that the thing will break and that I’d need to get a Japanese software update.
2. Would I need to purchase an adapter for the Japanese charger to work in the U.S.?
Supposedly the Japanese have different prongs and/or different outlets.
3. What about voltage? I’ve read that the Japanese use a different voltage than Americans. I wouldn’t want my PSP to be fried due to an overcharge.
4. What is custom firmware and is it needed in order for a PSP to work properly?
Again, I read that attempting to update a Japanese-bought PSP will cause it to break and render it useless.

1. you WILL be able to update your system but you will not be able to use the updates from the us.playstation.com site you will have to find specifically japanese released updates…
2. in japan they use a different type of wall outlets but the psp uses the same battery whether its japan us korea or europe so i dont see why you couldnt just use an american charger to charge it. they run like $10 at fry’s electronics
3. again same battery so if you got an american charger you should be fine
4. ahh custom firmware, the bane and blessing of psp users, you can turn your psp into a self contained computer with the ability to do damn near anything from download archives to extracting zip, 7z, rar files str8 to your memory stick, you can run your LEGALLY backed up ISO images of UMD games from yor memory stick… unfortunately for you if you are interested in the 3000 model you wont be able to install custom firmware on it. the psp 3000 uses either a ta088v3 or ta090 motherboard and said mobos block the Initial Program Loader(IPL) from forcing access to the kernel basically stopping you from installing your own firmware… google dashhacks network
